Ning is a rising senior at Newport High School. She’s passionate about writing; she received a 5 on the AP Language and Composition exam and is an editor for the Newport Knightlife newspaper. In her spare time, Ning enjoys playing the violin, running, and learning about United States politics.
Athena is a rising senior at Newport High School that has taken both AP Chemistry and AP Physics. She helped lead our STEM Exploration summer camp, and also a rocketry camp last summer. She loves teaching others, and is currently the president of Mock Trial Club.
This program is great for students who would like to improve their writing skills and learn about what is going on in the world around them. Students will receive hands-on training in writing, broadcasting, online media, and reporting, as well as a basic introduction to U.S. government and politics. They will learn to look for credible sources when conducting research and be given both peer and instructor feedback on their writing. Lessons will culminate in a self-directed final project.
Topics: Reporting, Broadcasts, structure of US gov't, modern news in social media, etc.
Prerequisites: Students should have a basic command of English as well as grammar knowledge
