Location: Classes will be online through Microsoft Teams | More info will be sent out before first class
Dates: Monday - Friday | July 20th - July 24th
Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Fee: $50 | contact us at seattleadvocatesfe@gmail.com for financial aid.
 
Target: Entering 7th grade - 10th grade

Instructors: 

Sagan Russ
Sagan is a rising senior at Newport High School. She enjoys studying science and technology at school, including taking AP Biology, Biotechnology, Anatomy/Physiology, AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science and AP Calculus, as well as serving on the board of the Girls Who Code Club and as a member of Eco Club. Her favorite activities include competitive dancing, baking and playing video games.
Anne Mcdonald
Annie is a rising at Newport High School. She has programming experience as the president of her school’s Girls Who Code, secretary of Built by Girls, and Director of Technology for JSA. Her STEM experience at school includes AP Computer Science, Python, AP Physics, and AP Chemistry. In her free time, Annie competitively golfs and volunteers as a coach.  
Elaine Zhang
Elaine is a rising senior at Newport High School. She is involved with Girls Who Code, Built by Girls, and Cisco Project Club. At school, she has taken STEM classes such as AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science, AP Physics, and Cisco Networking. Her hobbies include playing the cello, painting, and reading.

Curriculum

Students will learn about how science, math, and engineering can be applied in the real world in addition to gaining a basic understanding of each subject. This class will focus on female empowerment in STEM throughout history and continuing into modern day. We will also introduce career resources and programs that the students can use in the future through high-school and college. Lastly, each day will include an online/at home lab activity to apply in class topics. 

Topics: Biology, Coding, Chemistry, Physics, Math, womens STEM history

Prerequisites: Basic understanding of algebra, data analysis skills

 

Materials:

  • Personal laptop/computer, calculator, note taking materials
